We attended the AMPOA meeting last night on Jan 15, 2019 and wanted to say thank you to all the volunteer board members. Congrats to the newly elected board members! Thank you for the many, many hours each of you donate preparing for the meeting and for the multitude of things you do that are unseen by the rest of us.
We attend AMPOA meetings to get informed and to meet others who live in the AMPOA neighborhood. Most all of the neighbors we have met so far seem to peaceable and work well together to solve issues. This was very evident during the Viewpoint fire and the subsequent monsoon flooding when neighbors were checking in with each other to find out who needed assistance and communicating to make sure others and their property were safe. We usually leave AMPOA meetings feeling glad we attended having met more people to wave at as we drive, bike or walk through our community.
However, last night we left feeling sad and uneasy as result of the 15 minutes plus verbose tirade of one couple. This couple who believed it their right to take the microphone and spew out every real or perceived wrong they think has happened since they moved to Antelope Meadows. In our opinion the meeting was hijacked and it was difficult to listen as our volunteer board members and neighbors were berated over and over. That we witnessed each board member keep a professional demeanor and communicate with respect just increased our gratitude for each of you!
The other things that saddened our hearts is that several other neighbors at the meeting made comments that exhibited contempt prior to investigation accepting this couple’s accusations as absolute truth. The group think mentality seemed to take over and it was difficult to understand how any of that is helpful or solution focused. Much of this couple’s double-sided list of complaints have absolutely nothing to do with the AMPOA board members scope of responsibility and it seemed that their using the AMPOA meeting as a platform was their attempt to control the behaviors of all their neighbors. Not sure why they moved here if they think they can come in and use the AMPOA meeting to create uproar in attempt to make their neighbors conform to what is their opinion of their ‘dream home’. It was also upsetting to hear that this couple feels it’s their right to take pictures of their neighbors’ properties and violate the sense of safety and privacy of their neighbors. Most of the people we have met in the AMPOA neighborhood have individualistic ideas of their ‘dream home’ too and as property owners have rights to live out those dreams without fear.
To the other neighbors in the meeting last night please consider this: There is a mechanism for expressing complaints to the board if someone may believe there is a violation of CC&Rs. If as a community during AMPOA meetings we continue to be reactive to real or perceived accusations without allowing the board members to gather facts or evidence; the risk will be unintended consequences of turning Antelope Meadows into a communist-like community run by domineering and demanding people who will make it their priority to make the lives of others conform to their views.
